Post-Conference Trip
The post-conference field trip will be on Saturday, June 6th to the Atchafalaya River Basin. The Atchafalaya Basin is the largest bottomland hardwood forest and swamp in North America and the location of the largest wild crayfish harvest in the U.S. Over 90% of the wild crayfish harvest in Louisiana comes from the Atchafalaya Basin. A bus will take participants from the hotel to the Nature Conservancy’s Atchafalaya Conservation Center in the heart of the Atchafalaya Basin. The Atchafalaya Conservation Center sits on top floating barges and houses two 800-square-foot buildings with a meeting room, kitchen, and sleeping quarters. Our partners at the Nature Conservancy will discuss the unique culture and ecology of the Atchafalaya Basin and the current efforts to maintain and enhance this natural wonder. Participants will then take a guided boat tour through the bayous and floodplain of the Atchafalaya Basin to fully experience this truly unique and amazing ecosystem.
Cost: Price for the post-conference field trip will be $200 per person and includes lunch. Limit of 20 people.
